Bronx Zoo: Tiger meets Duck

I was in the Bronx Zoo on Sunday, May 4 and I entered the Siberian Tiger exhibit, where the tigers roam around a large grassy area while zoo visitors peer at them from behind two separate glass enclosures.

One of the panes of glass borders a pond where I imagine the tigers drink. Somehow a duck mother and her ducklings got into the pond, which didn't seem like such a safe place.

When I got there, I found a big crowd watching breathlessly as one of the tigers was perched on a rock looking intently at the ducks, evidently wondering whether it was worth a dip in the pool to try and supplement his or her lunch.

At some point, the tiger walked around over to the rock nearest the glass to get closer to the ducks. All while the duck mother paddled furiously away to keep her ducklings safe. The crowd was waiting to see what the tiger would do, some evidently hoping for a little action for their cellphone cameras, others fearing for the safety of the duck.

Eventually, the tiger thought better of it and walked away.
I'm hoping some conscientious zoo employees managed to find a way to get those ducks out of there and back in  the duck pond where they belong.

  1. If they were eaten it would be natures way or the Tao as I always say.
